Governorship Screening: PDP Youths Advise Makinde Against Succumbing To Pressure

As the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) embarks on the screening of its governorship aspirants on Monday, Oyo State Governor and Chairman of the Screening Committee, Seyi Makinde has been advised against succumbing to pressure from governors and other stakeholders.

The PDP South South Youth Vanguard gave this advice in Abuja on Sunday.

The Chairman of the PDP Youths Vanguard, James Efe Akpofure, in a statement stated that all the aspirants should be allowed to participate in the forthcoming primary in Bayelsa State.

The group advised the party leadership and the Oyo State Governor on the implication of disqualifying any of the aspirants.

They said that doing so would create rancour and crisis in the family of PDP nationwide, adding that such development would also send a wrong signal that PDP is not a united party.

The PDP youths said: "The governors especially that of Bayelsa State and other stakeholders who would want to dictate for others in the forthcoming primary, should not be allowed to have their way.

"Allowing individuals, no matter how highly placed to dictate the directive of this coming primary would not augur well and would create division in the family of PDP.

"The Oyo State Governor and Chairman of the Screening Committee should not yield to any pressure from any quarters. He should know that others are watching the action and inaction of the party," they said.

The group added that the era of playing godfathers is over and the party (PDP) should understand that it's not the one in government at the federal level, as such, should be careful on its approach towards issues.

The group, however, advised the screening committee to allow all the aspirants to achieve their aspirations by going into the field to slug  it out.
